POSITION OVERVIEW:
The Accounting Manager will step into a newly created role designed to support continued growth within a large, well-established organization. Reporting to the Controller, this position will oversee core accounting operations, lead the general ledger team, and ensure the accuracy and integrity of the company’s financial reporting and close processes.
This role is both strategic and hands-on, with responsibility for month-end close, internal controls, audit coordination, and process improvement. The ideal candidate brings strong technical accounting expertise, exposure to the construction industry, and the ability to lead and collaborate in a fast-paced accounting and finance environment.
Important Information:
- Company Size: Approximately $1B in annual revenue
- Location: Sugar Land, Texas
Work Schedule: On-site, Monday through Friday - Compensation: $125,000 – $135,000, plus 15% discretionary bonus
- Paid Time Off: 120 hours annually, plus 6 paid holidays
- 401(k): Company match equal to 40% of the first 5% of employee contributions

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Financial Reporting: Support the preparation and review of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP. Experience within a construction environment and exposure to inventory accounting are strongly preferred.
- Month-End Close Leadership: Manage general ledger close activities, including reconciliations, accruals, journal entries, and inventory-related accounting.
- Internal Controls: Oversee the execution and ongoing improvement of internal controls to ensure compliance, accuracy, and financial integrity.
- Audit Coordination: Serve as the primary point of contact for internal and external audits, support documentation requests, and provide explanations as needed.
- Process Improvement: Identify opportunities to enhance accounting workflows, strengthen controls, and improve reporting efficiency and timeliness.
- Team Leadership: Supervise and mentor the general ledger team, providing guidance, oversight, and professional development support.
- Compliance & Reporting: Ensure timely and accurate completion of financial reports, filings, and other compliance-related requirements.
- Systems & ERP Support: Partner with leadership on the ongoing optimization, maintenance, and potential enhancement of accounting systems and ERP tools.
POSITION QUALIFIERS:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance required
- 6+ years of progressive accounting experience
- Minimum of 3+ years in a supervisory or managerial capacity
- Construction industry experience preferred
- Strong working knowledge of GAAP, including percentage-of-completion revenue recognition
- Experience with ERP/accounting systems; Microsoft Dynamics experience is a plus
- Advanced Excel skills and comfort with financial reporting and analysis
- Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving abilities
- Proven leadership and people-management skills
- Clear and effective written, verbal, and interpersonal communication
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment with high attention to detail
