Senior Tax Director

OVERVIEW:

COMPENSATION: Up to $250k base, plus 30% STI

SCHEDULE: 4 days onsite

LOCATION: Houston, TX 77086

REVENUE: $1.5B

A global, industry-leading organization is seeking a Senior Director of Tax, a highly strategic tax executive to lead its global tax function. This role oversees all aspects of tax planning, compliance, reporting, and risk management across our multinational operations.

This position requires a strong blend of technical tax expertise, strategic leadership, and experience operating in a multinational corporate environment.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Global Tax Strategy & Advisory

• Establish and lead a comprehensive global tax strategy aligned with long-term business objectives.
• Advise leadership on tax implications related to mergers, acquisitions, restructurings, and international expansion.
• Evaluate global legislative and regulatory developments and assess their impact on the organization.
• Identify opportunities to leverage tax credits, incentives, and innovation-related benefits, including R&D initiatives.
• Drive optimization strategies related to international income streams and export-related tax benefits.

Tax Compliance & Financial Reporting

• Oversee all global income tax compliance, including U.S. federal, state, and international filings.
• Lead the preparation and review of tax provisions and disclosures in accordance with ASC 740.
• Evaluate and manage permanent establishment exposure across operating jurisdictions.
• Partner closely with external auditors and ensure compliance with SOX controls related to tax processes.

International Tax & Transfer Pricing

• Direct global transfer pricing policies, documentation, and intercompany pricing frameworks.
• Work cross-functionally with Finance, Legal, and Treasury teams to support intercompany transactions and global structuring.

Risk Management & Tax Controversy

• Proactively identify tax risks and implement controls to mitigate exposure.
• Manage tax audits, examinations, and disputes across domestic and international jurisdictions.
• Oversee relationships with tax authorities and external advisors.
• Develop and execute the organization’s overall tax controversy strategy.

Leadership & Cross-Functional Partnership

• Lead, mentor, and develop a global tax team across multiple regions.
• Act as a strategic advisor to senior leadership on tax-related matters impacting business decisions.
• Collaborate closely with Finance, Legal, Treasury, and operational leaders to support enterprise-wide initiatives.
• Engage with external advisors and service providers to advance the company’s tax objectives.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required; Master’s degree is strongly preferred.
• CPA required; JD is a strong plus.
• 12+ years of progressive experience leading corporate tax functions within a multinational organization; public company experience highly preferred.
• International tax exposure in regions such as Europe and Asia is strongly preferred
• Deep technical knowledge of U.S. and international tax regulations, OECD/BEPS frameworks, ASC 740, and transfer pricing.
• Experience with FDII and other international tax optimization strategies is a plus.
• Proven ability to lead global teams in a matrixed environment.
• Strong communication skills with the ability to influence executive stakeholders.
• Experience with tax technology platforms and enterprise ERP systems.
• Background supporting high-growth, innovation-driven, or complex global businesses.
