A growing organization in Houston’s Energy Corridor is hiring a newly created Director of Corporate Accounting to support the company’s continued growth. Reporting directly to the Chief Accounting Officer and leading two direct reports, this person will oversee key corporate accounting and consolidation activities while helping strengthen and improve processes across the function.
This is an opportunity for someone who genuinely enjoys getting into the weeds, solving problems and figuring out how to make things work better. The company is looking for someone who can get down to the studs, identify what needs to change and help build the accounting infrastructure needed for continued growth.
The ideal candidate will have a strong corporate accounting foundation and genuinely enjoy the forensic side of accounting, digging into the numbers, identifying problems and figuring out how to fix them. This person should be comfortable working in the details while also seeing the bigger picture and helping shape how the accounting function evolves as the organization continues to grow. For someone currently at the Assistant Controller level who is ready to take the next step, this could be an especially compelling opportunity.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Lead corporate accounting and financial consolidation activities, including month-end and year-end close
- Manage multi-entity consolidations and intercompany transactions
- Oversee account reconciliations and ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial reporting
- Assist with the preparation of monthly consolidated financial statements
- Strengthen accounting policies, procedures and internal controls
- Identify opportunities to streamline and improve accounting processes
- Partner with IT to optimize ERP systems, financial reporting and consolidation tools
- Support technical accounting research and documentation as needed
- Work cross-functionally with Finance, Treasury, Operations, external auditors and senior leadership
- Support the accounting organization through continued growth and acquisition activity
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
- Active CPA required
- 7+ years of progressive accounting experience
- Strong corporate accounting experience
- Significant experience with consolidations, intercompany transactions, account reconciliations and financial reporting
- Strong understanding of GAAP
- Experience working with ERP systems and financial consolidation/reporting tools
- Demonstrated process improvement experience
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Experience leading and developing accounting professionals
- Acquisition-related accounting experience is highly preferred
- Ability to communicate effectively with senior leadership and operate as a true business partner
WHY THIS ROLE:
- There is a lot of runway here. Succession planning is already in place.
- The company is growing, the position is newly created, and leadership wants someone who can do more than manage a checklist. They want someone who will have a voice at the table, challenge existing processes when appropriate and help shape what the corporate accounting function looks like as the organization continues to scale.
- If you love problem solving, enjoy the forensic side of accounting, and get excited about walking into an environment where there is still plenty to build, this is the kind of role where you can make a visible impact.
